So who is the inspiration behind this family travel and adventure blog?
We are Shannon, Rogier, Mick, and Tatum. As a family, we often get told “we love following your adventures”. We get asked for recommendations and love nothing more than talking about travel and the places we have been.
So ‘happylife Safari’ was born. After all, our life isn’t just about the holidays and travel stories. It is about the daily adventure that makes our family who we are.
Let me tell you why…
Years ago a significant life event rocked a young family of four. A young mum passed away; leaving behind two children; 3 and 1; and a young dad needing to hold it all together. Friends and family were a huge support. One friend who had a very close bond with the children and who had known and admired the young mum was a strength that the family needed and the friend that the young dad needed most.
Scheduled to go back to The Netherlands for a holiday; where his family was; the young dad started talking to the friend about the other parts of the world he would love his children to see and also countries he longed to visit. Over a few wines, it was decided the friend; another lover of travel and adventure; would come along. A couple of weeks in the Netherlands turned into three months of adventure around the world for the young dad, the friend, and the two children. This would be the start of a new young family and many, many years of worldwide adventures.
Like every family, we have our ups and downs. We tackle emotions no one should have to cope with, but we always find a way to smile and think about the positives. Our life is certainly not perfect but we are certainly going to enjoy the ride on our happylife Safari.
