I am Adela, a high school student who lives in Kamëz ,near Tiranë; the capital city of Albania.
Albania has an old history, has good places, friendly people, delicious food and traditional celebrations. To be honest, I feel it is quite different from other countries around the world because of the economy. It doesn’t cost that much for tourists to visit, but there are low wages ($500 USD a month) so it is considered a poor country.
My family doesn’t get to eat very often at restaurants even though there are a lot of good restaurants near my place. My mom cooks amazing food everyday for us. There is the best restaurant near my place. It is called “Brazil”, and it is located in Arrameras, Fushë-Krujë . There you can find any kind of meat, salads, cornbread, wine, desserts, etc. It has good reviews and offers a good service. I haven’t visited all the restaurants in my place, but I have heard that they are quite good!
The weekends are quiet for my family. My family and I go to the beach, or go to my grandparents, and spend the day. We sometimes stay at home and cook something good. We often go to Gjiri i Lalëzit beach in Durrës (an awesome place for families). Sometimes we visit Dajti Mountain. Even there you can find such good restaurants. I suggest visiting all the places, and understanding the beauty of it. There’s no single thing you cannot do over here. God gave Albania an incredible nature, and that’s a fact!
Where I am from should be known for the people and food. People here are very friendly and they welcome every tourist here, and they aren’t critical. The people in Albania are very hard-working and appreciate every little thing in their lives. Most of us are originally from Northern Albania, like Dibër, Kukës,Tropojë ,Mat, Pukë, Mirditë etc. My family came from Dibër and have been in our new home since 1996. We moved for good living near Tirana.
The location of my place is really good. It’s a very quiet place. Unfortunately ,it doesn’t have any parks to go out or spend the free time with kids and pets like other countries have. The only outdoor activity that I personally know, is paragliding from Dajti Mountain to Tirana. I have never done that, because I am afraid of heights. There are a lot of Indoor activities near my place, like Latitude Tirana, Escape Room Tirana, Stela Resort etc. I have been a few times. They are quite good, especially for children. They have so much fun! 😊
If you’d be a solo traveler you’d be free to see any place in Albania. I suggest places far from my place, because it doesn’t have that much to do. But I would say to visit Northern and Southern Albania, especially places that have never been visited by tourists before. If you’d be a couple here, I would suggest only Tirana. It is such a good place and offers good things. You can do whatever you want without hesitating much.
The local cuisine is a blessing! It is famous for us. Usually people here love to eat, they are food lovers ( just like me 😛 ). Even though some of our food has been influenced by other countries, they are still delicious and very good. I love any kind of food, especially desserts like :sheqerpare, bakllava, kadaif and ballokume. Our Albanian moms cook really well and we are proud of them.
We love everything about Albania and we would love to share everything it has to offer with others.
