by Shannon van de Laar

Yep! There are airports around the world that are so cool, you won’t mind if you get stuck there.  We all have our “worst” airport experience, but what about the best airport experience?

Check out this list of 5 of the best airports around the globe you want to get stuck in next.

1. Changi Airport, Singapore

Our top choice of one of the most amazing airports in the world is the Changi Airport in Singapore. This airport is full of walkable gardens and an entire indoor canopy park. There are Manulife sky nets but if you are more for one to stay on the ground there is a mirror maze and a hedge maze.

This airport is so beautiful it hosts festivals and weddings. This airport also holds the world’s largest indoor waterfall. It’s impossible to feel frustrated about a delayed flight while you can hear the peaceful white noise of a waterfall in the background. If you have the pleasure of choosing what airport to get stuck in, we highly suggest this one.

2. Madrid Barajas, Spain

If you are heading to Europe consider flying through Madrid Barajas airport. This is the 5th busiest airport in Europe and still has one of the highest-ranking traveler satisfaction ratings. This IG-worthy airport has beautiful yellow infrastructure.  There are four terminals, each unique in its own way.

The best part of this airport is the multitude of VIP lounges for passengers who have long layovers. Some of these lounges offer catering services, newspapers, and personalized info. The best part of this airport? Even if you do get stuck, there are fully equipped rooms for sleeping or to rest at the airport. Located in terminal 4, after immigration and customs, these rooms can be rented out overnight or from 3-6 hours at a time, depending on your layover.

3. Dubai International, Dubai

There is no denying that Dubai is a glamorous city to visit, but even if you only get the chance to visit the Dubai international airport, you will be amazed. This is one of the only airports where you can get gourmet world cuisine. There are four-star restaurants and small plate tapas bars.

The international Dubai Airport also has cabin options to sleep overnight or just for a few hours. You can choose a comfortable cabin or a five-star suite. This gives anyone the option to sleep and fly. There are even Kid’s activities like DXB’s Family Zone with a huge basketball court and trampoline park.

4. Shenzhen Bao’an International, China

When you walk from your plane into the Shenzen Bao’an International airport you’ll immediately feel like you walked into a new dimension. The ceilings mimic a Scandinavian nature design with hexagons and skylights.

After your international flight, Shenzhen Bao’an International has a children’s play area, baby care facilities, and even office facilities. There are hotels close by that you can get to by airport transport. Like the Doubletree, and Hyatt. These hotels are so close you will never have to worry about traffic back to the airport.

5. Denver Airport, United States

Denver International airport is probably the only city you would want to get stuck in the U.S.A. This airport makes our list of the top 5 airports around the world you WANT to get stuck in because of the architectural illusions and museum-worthy art exhibits.

There are all the American classic bites in this airport like Auntie Anne’s pretzels or Cantina Grill. This airport is also very conscious about including local businesses like Caribou Coffee and Boulder Beer tap house. This airport is so well organized it keeps a scheduled train every 5 minutes from terminal to terminal. Hotels are located within the airport or also within 10 miles of the airport.

Exactly. I think it helps knowing if an airport is good when considering layovers though. We had a 15 hour one in Doha once!
